Following up on the topic of modern technologies for road accident prevention, it was concluded that accident prevention involves four components:
1) legislative measures; 2) technical solutions; 3) publicity; 4) control. Based on this, it was decided to consider all components sequentially. The first part of the article examined legislative regulations governing road traffic. The problems of legal regulation have been identified, which are associated with a large number of subjects of prevention and regulatory legal acts. At the same time, there is no single regulatory act that would regulate all issues related to traffic. Considering the second component of road accident prevention, it is concluded that modern technologies undoubtedly help to control traffic and to reduce accident rates. However, to increase the effectiveness of preventive measures, it is necessary to eliminate the influence of third parties: commercial organizations (installing cameras for photo and video, «smart traffic lights» etc.), the purpose of which is to make a profit. Road safety prevention and commercial interests should not be confused, as these preventive actors have different goals that do not contribute to the overall objective of road safety. It is necessary to address the issue of creating technical units within the State Inspectorate for Road Traffic Safety, where specialists will independently install, maintain, and perform predictive diagnostics of technical solutions and technologies.
