PREREQUISITES TO DEVELOP A FORENSIC METHODOLOGY FOR INVESTIGATING CRIMES COMMITTED BY USING BIOTECHNOLOGY

The article is devoted to the problems of criminal law regulation and the methodology of investigating crimes committed with the help of biotechnology. It examines the existing gaps in Russian legislation and the insufficient law enforcement practice that hinder the effective prevention, detection and investigation of such crimes. The article discusses the high risk of individual rights’ violations and the potential threats to society that arise from the misuse of biotechnology achievements. Special attention is paid to the forensic characteristics of such acts, including the analysis of typical traces, the method of commission and the identity of the offender. The need for an interdisciplinary approach that combines legal, forensic and biotechnology knowledge is emphasized in order to create an effective system for countering new types of crimes related to the development of biotechnology. The article proposes recommendations for improving criminal legislation and developing and implementing effective methodological guidelines for the detection and investigation of crimes committed using biotechnology.
